In my last post, Let’s Grow Grow Grow in 2016, I asked some really great questions important to your salon’s success in 2016. You can read it here. Hopefully you’ve taken some time to consider what your BIG WHY is and what you want your business to look like by year’s end. Here are 4 simple routines you can adapt to really supercharge your business goals and help you get the biggest return on your investment of time, talent and money.
Let’s first define routine. In its simplest form, routines are nothing more than activities you perform consistently to help you focus on what’s needed for success, when and how it is to be done to best achieve the results you want. Here are 4 simple routines you can implement to supercharge your business.
Review your past week. As they say, “hindsight is 20/20.” Create a habit of reviewing your past week while things are still fresh in your mind, before the new week begins. You’ll receive great insight as to how you and your business are progressing and what you should be doing more or less of. Look for things that went well and what didn’t. Always, always review your numbers – how many clients you had for the week, total service revenue, total retail and other income, average service ticket, wait times, number of contacts you made during the week, weekly expenses and inventory, social media and marketing statistics, etc.
Daily Pick 3. No, this isn’t a lottery ticket but it can pay off big for you. Creating a list of the 3 most important things you’d need to accomplish daily is an incredibly powerful routine. Often, if we’re not careful, it’s easy to get caught up reacting to things that happen to and around us. Constantly staying busy but not accomplishing a lot. Success often is the sum of small things done well as opposed to big things done inconsistently. Knowing what your most important goals are each day will help you maintain focus and keep from being overwhelmed. Do you need more clients? Then focus your activities on things to get more clients. Need to increase your average service or retail ticket? Focus on talking with each client about what their needs are and making recommendations. Issues with time management? Center your efforts and activities on being efficient and effective while still delivering an exceptional salon experience for each client.
Prepare Mentally for Success. You ever noticed how some people are seemingly doing some of the same things you are but experiencing much different outcomes? The greater part of being successful isn’t as physical as much as it is mental. Really successful people are intentional. They prepare and envision themselves achieving a certain end and position themselves to accomplish it.
Arriving early for work allows you to be ready to receive your first client and for the day ahead. Listen to only certain music, meditate or do whatever gets you in a success state of mind on the way to work. Avoid people and situations that disturb your positive energy. Find things to be grateful for throughout the day and give thanks. Schedule breaks for rest and eat well. Success is all about remaining focused on the things that matter most and being consistent.
Make a Habit of (Re)Connecting. Connecting with new people or reconnecting with people you haven’t communicated with in some time is an excellent way to let people know you’re thinking of them. A great by-product of that is you stay top of mind and people are more likely to think of you to schedule a service or refer people. A habit of connecting and reconnecting will increase your powerbase and keep your clientele strong and growing. Each day determine how many people you will reach out to. Connect online and offline. Making this a habit means you’ll never have to worry about your business again.
I’d like to hear from you. What habits or routines do you have or recommend that have helped you be successful?
