Fall In Love with these 2013 Fall Nail Trends image

Fall brings a break from the summer heat, a kaleidoscope of vibrantly colored leaves and pumpkin-spiced lattes. The changing of seasons also inspires a change in wardrobe and a switch-up in nail polish. But the cooler temps require much more than a simple modification of nail color. Kathryn Romeyn, editorial director and co-founder of “Beauty Bender”, gives the scoop on this season’s hot nail trends and the latest fashionable manicured looks.

Fall Colors

For popular polish tints, Romeyn expects to see a lot of nude colors. Additionally, she anticipates that salons will incorporate blacks and oxbloods with the nude shades for an inspired nail art finish. “I'm also seeing a lot of somewhat utilitarian colors,” she adds. “Like deep khaki, green and navy.”

Nail Art Is Here to Stay

Nail art is still a hot beauty trend, and this fall, it evolves into a new era of sleek, manicured looks. “I think it's becoming a bit more simplified — not as over the top,” says Romeyn, who predicts matte will be big this fall. Expect to see plenty of graphics and geometrics, as well as textures. Romeyn suggests checking out Nail Inc.’s new “rad” monogram kit, which includes letter appliques to apply to each nail. Also expected to grace the runways and nails of fashion’s finest this fine is 3-D nail art. Studs, pearls, beads and even lace of varying iterations will be in high demand for those who like their nails to ”pop.“

Outside-the-Box Nail Art

For nail art that goes a step above the ordinary, think negative-space nail art. According to Romeyn, this trend is “gaining traction” in the industry. It involves leaving portions of the nail unpainted, or removing lacquer in certain sections to create a one-of-a-kind look. “It's a really cool look, and it is somehow minimal and statement-making simultaneously,” says Romeyn.

Celebrity Nails

Romeyn cites British Vogue contributing editor Alexa Chung as her “go-to for super-chic and very cool nail art.” She also lists Jennifer Lopez and Demi Lovato as A-list celebrities with nails that are “always rockin’,” and credits celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik for keeping Lopez’s nails looking polished and Stephanie Stone for maintaining Lovato’s stylish tips. Whether your personal nail-style preference is for neutral nude hues, geometric design or eye-catching 3-D art, these designer-approved looks demand attention. And after debuting on the red carpet and catwalks at New York Fashion Week earlier this month, they are ready to make their way into nail salons across the nation.
