Haircut Horoscopes: Let the Stars Decide

A new moon occurs this Saturday, September 16, and in astronomy, this is a time when the sun and moon are perfectly aligned. While you won’t be able to see the new moon – that would be impossible because a new moon is not in the sky at night – you might still be able to feel it. Many astrologists believe that the moon is the ruler of our emotions, and a new moon is a time for transformations, new beginnings — maybe even a new hairdo! 

Read on for a special astrological list designed to help you figure out which styles are best for your clients based on their zodiac signs. If they can’t decide on a cut, why not let the stars pick for them? Enjoy!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Aries are confident, enthusiastic, and optimistic — but sometimes they can be a little bit hurried, too. Because Aires are always running around, they’ll appreciate a low-maintenance cut like a pixie that can be worn tousled on wavy haired divas. Don’t sweat it if your client isn’t ready to go super-short. Long hair can be easy too, especially if you skip blunt cuts and go with lightweight layers that’ll speed up styling time. Whatever you do, avoid bangs at all costs — they require way too much work for an Aries!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

There’s a reason the symbol for Taurus is a bull! Those born under this sign can be stubborn beyond belief, but they’re also practical and well grounded. A modern bob might be a great fit with the Taurus personality. The bob never goes out of fashion, as we all know, but it can be updated for 2017 by playing the lines. Try a style that’s shorter in back and longer on sides, and don’t forget to teach your client how to style the new look.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

We’re sorry to tell you this, but Gemini can be challenging! That’s because this zodiac represents two different personalities in one — and you can never be sure which personality you’re facing! Sometimes social and outgoing, Gemini can also be serious, thoughtful, or nervous. Our solution? Rainbow hair! This crazy-fun style will let a Gemini show off their fun side when they feel like it, but the color is also easy to conceal and totally safe for work. 

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

These “crabs” are traditionally known for being sensitive and emotional. Give a Cancer a cut that’s too short, and you might set off an emotional rant. But Cancers are also very loyal and imaginative. They’re element is water, which is why we recommend a style marked by long, flowing, Mermaid-like waves.

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Oh, Leo! Clients born under this sign are natural-born leaders, just like the lion. That means they’re often dominant and – yes – maybe a little bit arrogant. Skip the trends, and give your Leo a power look they’ll love, like a classic short bob that’ll immediately tell the world what this individual is all about.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Virgos are kind, classy people who always want to look put-together when they’re out in public. Are you reading us here? This means nothing shaggy, loud, gaudy, or overly fashion-forward! Try recommending a medium to long cut that’s straightforward and easy to pull back. Bonus points if you show your client how to do a twisted up-do, a romantic, oh-so-easy take on the braid that Virgos will absolutely adore.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

These peaceful peeps tend to be gracious, fair-minded, and also indecisive at times. Because Libras are fascinated by symmetry, suggest your client try an asymmetrical style – maybe a long bob – that gets a little bit playful with sharp lines. But please, make sure to keep the new cut balanced!

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

People born under Scorpio are usually fearless and sexy — not to mention they can also be very intense. If your client is game – and only if you think it’ll be a good fit – try recommending a bleach blond buzz cut, which is very feminine and – duh – extremely low maintenance. We’ve been loving the style on celebrities this year.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

Talk about wanderlust! These free-spirited idealists love to travel, and they’ve got the laid-back attitude needed to journey through the world and life with a smile. A shaggy style with easy layers could be a good fit. You might even want to try the lovely-but-edgy Bardot fringe. Extra credit if you also suggest natural highlights that’ll still look great even after they’ve grown out a little.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

This particular sign screams timeless and traditional! Imagine Audrey Hepburn in diamonds and a neat ponytail, and you’ll get the idea. Capricorns are masters of self-control, and they’re also known for being responsible, disciplined, and totally family-focused. Based on these personality traits, we recommend long, straight cuts that’ll ensure your client can always look fabulous and put together with little more than a blowout.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

These quirky clients can come off as aloof, but they’re do-gooders deep down, and they’ll need a hairstyle that shows off their fun side. Bohemian bangs might be a good choice. Or, throw in a few fashion colors — the color for this zodiac is light blue. PS: These folks are notorious for changing their minds, so pick a style that’ll be easy to change down the road.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Pisces is a water sign that’s characterized by attributes like empathy and compassion. That explains why Pisces are usually very good friends — and why they occasionally get in trouble for being too trusting! Ditch the straitening iron for gorgeous, wild, kinky curls that flow like water. If your client isn’t up for a real perm, give her a faux one instead, goings nuts with curling tongs and setting the final look with hairspray.
