How Beauty Professionals Can Stay Healthy In The Salon image

Aside from routine cleaning, mask-wearing, and all the other precautionary measures you are taking to keeping your salon as clean and safe as possible, what are you doing to keep yourself as healthy as possible? It’s important, especially during this time, that you are making yourself a priority. Stress is high and life can feel unpredictable, but it's important to focus your energy on what you can control - like keeping yourself healthy! Not only is it crucial in effort of stopping the spread of COVID, but also to help you stay strong in mind, body and spirit – all of which impact your salon business.

Here are 5 tips to keep you healthy (and energized) in the salon!

1. Eat Regularly 🍽

Standing on your feet all day can zap the energy right out of you. In addition to eating a filling breakfast and lunch, munching on healthy snacks throughout the day will keep your blood sugar up. Avoid energy dropping carbs as much as possible and instead opt for easy, high-fiber snacks like apples and peanut butter, raw almonds, fresh raspberries or Greek yogurt. Let yourself take just an extra few minutes in between clients and sanitizing to enjoy your healthy snacks.

2. Get Your Beauty Rest 😴

Skimping on sleep can lead to compromised immunity, making you and your clients more susceptible to anything from the common cold to coronavirus. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, whether you need to take the weekend to catch some ZZZs or build 20-minute power naps into your afternoons. Sleep is key!

3. Take a Break🚶‍♀️

One of the many benefits of being an independent salon owner is the ability to create your own schedule. Since you are already taking cleaning breaks in between clients, try scheduling an even longer break mid-afternoon. Get outside, take a walk around the block, and breathe in some fresh air. The environment can play a huge role in your mood, and sunlight will give you a dose of Vitamin D and help to bring your energy level back up.

4. Stretch it Out 🤸‍♀️

Take a few stretches, bends and twists to help improve your blood circulation. This will ultimately reawaken the body and give you a nice energy boost! Stretching is both relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time and will help increase your energy level if you’re feeling sluggish. It’ll also help to relieve any midday stress and anxiety to keep you inspired for the rest of the day.

5. Stay Hydrated 💦

With wearing a mask for hours on end, you’re probably looking for any excuse for a mask break! Use those times to drink some water and keep yourself hydrated. If you need a late afternoon pick me up, skip the coffee and opt for herbal tea or hot water with lemon. In addition to keeping you energized, there are a myriad of benefits to drinking enough water including improved kidney function, combating muscle fatigue, promoting weight loss and hydrating your skin. Dehydration can cause sleepiness, so when you’re feeling fatigued, make a conscious effort to drink more water – the difference won’t go unnoticed!

As a salon owner during these unprecedented times, it is crucial that you are staying healthy and energetic throughout your day. Use these tips to continue bringing your best self to your clients!
