Recreate This Look: Silk Press with Beachy Waves

Helping clients improve and maintain the integrity of their hair is always high on the priority list for a hairdresser, especially clients who come in with damage and breakage. LaShonda Banks had quite the task at hand when first-time client Kiesha Jones walked through her Sola studio door. Her hair was in need of a cut and some long overdue deep conditioning. “Kiesha prefers to wear her natural texture more often than not so I put her on a quarterly schedule for an Olaplex treatment and trim to maximize on growth retention while maintaining her curl pattern,” shared LaShonda. “Kiesha’s appointment started with a consultation where we discussed her hair goals and came up with a plan to help achieve them,” shared LaShonda. Ultimately, Kiesha wanted to wear her natural curl pattern but needed a thorough trim as she has been suffering from breakage due to split ends. I suggested an Olaplex treatment to restore the overall health of her hair and to make it more manageable in the coming weeks when she styled at home.”

The Cut

“It can be difficult to get a precision cut when dealing with naturally curly hair, so I blew Kiesha’s hair out and pressed it with my flat iron then proceeded with the cut,” added LaShonda. “This helped give an accurate clean finish.”

The Style

“I believe that most of the nutrients that are needed for healthy hair comes during the shampooing and conditioning process so I use minimal products outside of the leave-in conditioner once my client is in my chair,” shared LaShonda. “When styling, I start in the nape section and work my way upward. Once curled, I use my hands to style the final look. I do this by simply running my fingers through the curls to separate them and create volume.”
