Secrets to a Life-Changing Hair Wash image

If there’s one thing your clients love, it’s a scrumptious, luxurious shampoo. You know, the one that makes their mouth fall open and their eyes roll back? Yep, that’s the one. It’s not just about getting their hair clean; it’s about providing an exceptional customer experience they won’t likely get if they go somewhere else. So why is it so important?

In today’s world of buzzing technology and endless updates, people often overlook the little things that help them recharge. A good scalp scrub relaxes your client physically and helps them decompress before the beautification process begins. They come to you for a mini retreat from their everyday lives, and leave looking and feeling beautiful. Why not jumpstart the process with a small pleasure that’s very little investment for you, but high impact for them?

Start with a good brushing.

Get rid of the tangles and ensure a soft and smooth scrubbing.

Provide good neck support.

It doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re craning your neck over the edge of a sink, you can’t relax. If you miss this step, none of the others will matter.

Control the temp.

Can you believe there are still stylists who don’t ask their clients if the water is too hot or too cold? Thankfully you’re not one of them! Start with warm water and at the very end, consider a cool wash – it's great for the hair and invigorating too!

Scrub-a-dub.

Did you know there are a number of health benefits to a great scalp massage? Many professionals believe it stimulates blood flow, promotes hair growth, and acts as a headache and stress reliever. Start at the hairline and work your way down to the nape of the neck. Oh, and don’t forget the spot just behind the ears. The key is variety:

Pressure: Alternate between a soft and firm touch.
Speed: A combination of rapidly scrunching your fingertips throughout the scalp, with a slow and methodical smoothing technique should do just the trick.
Sensation: If you go for vigorous circles with your fingertips during the first pass, switch directions and use slow and deep strokes with your palms on the next. While you may be tempted to use your nails, exercise caution so you don’t lacerate the skin.

The accoutrements.

We’ve already chatted about how important the little things are. Why not take it a teeny step further? Consider pampering your clients with a few drops of aromatherapy oil for their scalp, or using a spa conditioner brush and scalp massager. Be sure to ask about allergies and tender-headedness beforehand.

The grand finale.

A nice, cool rinse invigorates the scalp and smooths the hair shaft. After your towel is securely in place, cup the base of their head and gently squeeze your hand in firm intervals all the way down to the base of the neck and ending in their shoulders.

By now, your clients are already starting to resemble the family pet during a blissful belly scratch. But if you really want to score extra brownie points, hand them a glass of wine on the way back to your chair! Remember, they can go to any salon they’d like, but they choose you. A marvelous customer experience will make sure they never go anywhere else.
